What are the Benefits of Mind Uploading?

I've always thought Mind Uploading was a possible solution to Fermi's Paradox. Let's say we upload and speed-up by 100,000. The speed of light becomes more like the speed of sound - subjectively.

If it takes several subjective month's latency for a signal to reach Japan we will loose some interest in communicating with them. Further, communicating with or traveling to other planets was already outside of our attention span. Imagine what it would be like at 100,000 X.
