A little over 350 years ago, philosopher René Descartes was struck by a rather disturbing thought. Is it possible, he wondered, that what we think of as reality is nothing more than an elaborate hoax?
There is a book called "The Power of Now", it's basically a how-to on life and it's first lesson is that time is imaginary and reality is what we want it to be. I think he refers to the "mind demon" as your conscience, or internal dialogue.
