Welcome to the Machine, Part 4: Kurzweil’s nano neural nets

As previously noted in this series, our entire world may be simulated. For all we know we’re sitting on a powerful supercomputer somewhere, the mere playthings of posthuman intelligences. But this is not the only possibility. There’s another way that this kind of fully immersive ‘reality’ could be realized—one that doesn’t require the simulation of an entire world. Indeed, it’s quite possible that your life is not what it seems—that what you think of as reality is actually an illusion of the senses. You could be experiencing a completely immersive and totally convincing virtual reality right now and you don’t even know it.

A little musing: If you were to search for a doctor to hook you up to a machine and alter your memory such that you won't know that you're living in a VR environment, would you want that doctor to first have had the procedure done on him? If so, then wouldn't it be true that the doctor wouldn't know what good his machine was for?

When artificial sensory data rises to the level that it delivers a fully immersive sensory experience to the brain that is indistinguishable from real life, there's nothing "virtual" about it!

The above hypothesised experience by Mr. Kurzweil has already been experienced by me personally. It happened to me.

"You could decide to cause your muscles and limbs to move as you normally would, but the nanobots would intercept these interneuronal signals, suppress your real limbs from moving, and instead cause your virtual limbs to move, appropriately adjusting your vestibular system and providing the appropriate movement and reorientation in the virtual environment."

So my question is- if there exists another way- As commonly known, Spiritual way- which makes this happen/has happened then why complicate the matter and spend millions of dollars in achieving this?

It is impressive and commendable to see that Mr Kruzweil could think this. Has he experienced this as well? I have a suspicion he might have:). Would love to know.
