i follow russia a bit and i remember those quotes by putin.
in my opinion, those were subtle hints "we know what u're doing and we're doing it to."
russia does not want to go to war with the united states, but it is a little worried that the untied states will one day go to war with it. who can blame russia for thinking this. so, so many empires have tried to invade the world's largest country. and the u.s. today is an empire (like 400 overseas bases or something ?)
anyway, if the united states does this it will be at our peril as we don't stand a chance vs. russia imo.
russia knows this, but it does not want a war, and it wants as much as it can to give us a clue to not start this war tjat we won't be able 2 win.
