Cascio @ SciVestor Emerging Technologies Workshop

Posted: Oct 24, 2008

http://www.singularitysummit.com/program#workshop

The Singularity Institute and SciVestor are partnering to present an intensive one-day workshop, preceding the
Singularity Summit, on emerging technologies that will change the world. Registration is limited to 50 participants.

The day’s agenda includes:

Opening Keynote

Jonas Lamis, SciVestor Executive Director – Surfing the Tsunami: Catching the coming waves of technology breakthroughs.
Semantic Web and the Roadmap to AI

Powerset, Twine and Freebase may be the “holy trinity” of the Semantic Web, but over the next year a new crop of entries will emerge, each with a powerful set of opportunities. Josh Dilworth from Porter Novelli will moderate a discussion with Venturebeat’s semantic technology reporter Chris Morrison and three of the most promising startups in this space today. We will bridge the work of companies in alpha and beta today with Singularity concepts of the more distant future.
The Business of Robotics

The robotics industry is beginning to show signs of explosive growth. Medical robots are saving lives, autonomous vehicles are moving out of the garage, and a little robot vacuum cleaner is changing an industry. Now there are big and small players circling the robotics software space. Join us for a lively discussion with key startups about the future of robotic technologies.
Nanotechnology, Today and Tomorrow

Andrew Braswell from iNano Capital Markets is coordinating an enlightening panel on the business of nanotechnology. His panelists include executives from some of the fastest growing nano-focused companies today, as well as technologists working on nanotech discoveries that may dramatically alter established marketplaces.

Closing Keynote

Jamais Cascio, Writer and tech futurist, Worldchanging.org Cofounder, Openthefuture.com Founder
