Cascio Receives Special Recognition

Posted: Dec 26, 2009

IEET Senior Fellow Jamais Cascio has been granted the honorary title of Research Fellow at the Institute for the Future (IFTF) in Palo Alto, California.

The full announcement from IFTF reads:

Jamais Cascio joins circle of IFTF Research Fellows

imageWe are pleased to announce the appointment of Jamais Cascio as Research Fellow at IFTF. This honorary title is reserved for a few select individuals who have shaped IFTF research in significant ways. In his work as a Research Affiliate at IFTF, in his own writings on OpenTheFuture, and in his increasingly public voice, Jamais has steadily been laying the conceptual foundation for an adaptive response to global climate change that goes well beyond sustainability to outline what a “resilient” future might look like. He has recently been named by Foreign Policy as one of the top 100 global thinkers and as a “moral guide to the future.”

Jamais’s intellectual focus is both broad and deep: he is not only a leading expert on the social, economic, and technological dilemmas of global climate change (including geoengineering); he also consistently refines our understanding of the ethical issues we’ll confront as we grapple with everything from extreme longevity to open-source warfare. Jamais is an imaginative master of scenario building, connecting the dots between the many challenges we face and the social, technical, and environmental resources we have to respond to them.

Jamais also serves as the Director of Impacts Analysis for the Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, and is Senior Fellow at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies.
