Discussion Forums, Commenting and Collaborative Thinktankery

Posted: Apr 7, 2008

Note from Dr. J.: I confess I have community-building ambitions. Thus far the IEET has been focused on building a high quality site for pushng out technoprogressive thought and public policy analysis. But in the coming year I would like to build more audience feedback and discussion into the IEET.

One step in that direction has been the streamlining of commenting on the articles in our site. Used to be that you had to be a registered member of the site, but no more.

A second step in that direction is the opening of the IEET Fora for discussion of IEET relevant topics.

http://ieet.org/index.php/forums

I’ve set up four Forum areas for now:

General Discussion
Cyborg Buddha
Global Security & X-Risks
Technoprogressivism and Transhumanism

A third open source audience-collaborative project we’ve been working on (a little bit at a time) for the last year is setting up the Images of Enhancement and Non-Human Intelligence in Popular Culture part of our website. The aim there is to begin discussing what the heck is going on in pop culture products like Battlestar Galactica, and what a technoprogressive critique of these pop culture tropes should be.

Hopefully you all can suggest ways we can become a better, more Web 2.0 community site. I look forward to your suggestions.  Make them in the forums:
