Poll: Should apes be granted the rights of human children?

Posted: May 22, 2007

This poll ran for more than two weeks, and generated a lot of votes, which went better than 2-to-1 for “Yes!”

In related news
  • One of my heroes, Barbara Ehrenreich, wrote a piece supporting ape rights
  • Chinese researchers discovered a single gene/neurochemical that distinguishes the human brain from that of the great apes, opening up the possibility that this gene could be spliced into a chimp or bonobo DNA and create more human cognitive capacities
  • New poll: What should we do with retirement age as we all live healthier longer? Eliminate it, raise it slowly, keep it the same, or something else?
